ORLANDO, Fla. – Stephanie Yakoff of Harvard women's tennis became the first player in program history since at least 2002 to win a match in the NCAA Women's Singles Championship.
In the opening round, Yakoff knocked off a seeded player, defeating Annabelle Xu (Virginia) in a three-set battle. The Harvard junior struck first, winning 6-3 in the opening set but Xu responded with her own 6-3 win in the second.
Undeterred by Xu's response, Yakoff recorded another 6-3 result to knock off her Virginia opponent and advance to the round of 32.
Yakoff will take on Lily Jones (Michigan) at 10:00 a.m. ET tomorrow in Orlando, Fla.
