CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Charlotte Owensby and
Claire Shao of Harvard women's tennis will look to qualify for the NCAA Individual Championships as they compete at the ITA Conference Masters this upcoming weekend. Action will begin in San Diego, Calif. on Thursday, November 6 and conclude on Sunday, November 9.
What to Know
- Owensby and Shao will begin its tournament at 4:00 p.m. ET on Thursday as it faces the seven-seed duo of Isabelle Tanjuatco and Sarah Shahbaz (Ball State).
- The senior and first-year duo is a perfect 4-0 this fall season.
- The pairing is the Ivy League representative after going undefeated at the Ivy League Qualifier in late October.
- As the three-seed in the tournament, the Crimson duo began on day one with an 8-3 victory over Elizabeth Tkachenko and Lara Stojanovski (Penn).
- Owensby and Shao collected two more wins on day two beginning with another 8-3 win over Ali Maguy and Anne Moody (Brown). The pairing was then tested in match two as it took on the top-seeded duo of Malak El Allami and Sophia Wang (Columbia). The Harvard duo won in tiebreakers, 7-6 (4), in the first set and then fell 6-3 in the second. Owensby and Shao then regrouped and advanced to the championship match with a 10-5 third set tiebreaker performance.
- Finally, Owensby and Shao dropped Esha Velaga and Jo-Leen Saw (Penn) in straight sets, 7-6 (7), 6-2, to secure its bid to the ITA Conference Masters.
- Overall, Owensby is 10-2 in doubles action to begin her senior campaign.
