SOUTH BEND, Ind. – No. 22 Harvard fell to No. 21 Notre Dame by a score of 8-6 on Wednesday afternoon at Arlotta Stadium. Despite a strong start and a third-quarter rally, the Crimson was unable to hold off the Fighting Irish in the final quarter.
Harvard led 3-0 early in the first quarter, but Notre Dame responded with five unanswered goals in the second quarter. The Crimson battled back to tie the game in the third, but late goals in the fourth
quarter sealed the victory for Irish.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Crimson opened the scoring after Callie Batchelder found Grace Mullahy in front to give Harvard an early lead.
- Mullahy picked up another goal just twenty seconds later after Batchelder found the sophomore again streaking from behind the net to extend the lead.
- Caroline Mullahy picked up her first helper of the game as she approaches the program record when she found senior captain Charley Meier to give Harvard a three goal lead that it took into the second quarter.
- Notre Dame responded with five unanswered goals to take a 5-3 lead heading into halftime.
- Caroline Mullahy ended the drought with 9:00 left in the third to cut the Notre Dame lead to just one with her second of the game off a fast break.
- Mullahy would add her second of the game to tie the game at five after a quick move at the corner of the net.
- Hannah Shiels scored her fourth of the season to give the Crimson its first lead since the first quarter when it was 3-0.
- Notre Dame would tie the game at six at the end of the quarter and add two more in the fourth to win 8-6.
