Women's Lacrosse Heads to Providence for Key Ivy Test

CAMBRIDGE, Mass.  – No. 24 women's lacrosse returns to Ivy League play on Saturday when it travels to Brown to take on the Bears at 1:00 p.m. and Stevenson Pincince Field. The game against the Bears will be streamed on NESN+ and ESPN+. 

Sitting at 1-1 in conference play, Harvard will face-off against the 1-1 Bears in a key Ivy matchup as Caroline Mullahy looks to break the Ivy League Record for assists with her first helper on Saturday. 

With 127 career helpers, Mullahy broke the program record on Monday against Bryant as the senior looks to make Ivy League history and break a record set in 2016 and become the first player to 130 career assists in league history. 

WHAT TO KNOW

SETTING THE SCENE 
  • Sitting at 1-1 in conference play, Harvard will face-off against the 1-1 Bears in a key Ivy matchup as Caroline Mullahy looks to break the Ivy League Record for Assists with her first helper on Saturday. 
  • With 127 career helpers, Mullahy broke the program record on Monday against Bryant as the senior looks to make Ivy League history and break a record set in 2016 and become the first player to 130 career assists in league history. 
LAST TIME OUT 
  • The Crimson's second quarter outburst propelled them to a 23-12 win over Bryant on Monday night. 
  • Tori Balser, Charlotte Hodgson, Caroline Mullahy, and Callie Batchelder combined for 22 points in the record-breaking evening at Jordan Field that saw the Crimson score nine straight goals in a dominating non-conference victory.
  • Caroline Mullahy finished the game with four assists after becoming the all-time assists leader with her second assist of the game.
  • Natasha Tribolet recorded her first goal of the season. 
  • Hodgson and Batchelder finished the game with five goals each.
  • First-year Emma Barkauskas got the win for the Crimson and made five saves between the pipes.
  • In a night of memorable milestones, Charlotte Hodgson was stellar on both sides of the ball, recording 15 draw controls, marking the most by any Crimson player in a single game since at least 2010.
LOOKING BACK 
  • The Crimson charged back to defeat the Brown Bears in dramatic fashion last season at Jordan Field In its first Ivy League matchup of the year by a score of 18-17.
  • Harvard trailed 13-8 at the half before the second half offensive explosion. 
  • Harvard was outscoring Brown 8-3 in the second half and 5-0 in the fourth quarter before Brown scored its first goal of the quarter to go back up by one.
  • The Crimson tied it with 30 seconds left before winning the following draw and scoring with 10 seconds left to win the game. 
  • Harvard finished the Ivy League season one game ahead of Brown at 4-3 in what turned out to be a key victory over the Bears. 
CRIMSON QUICK HITS
  • Harvard is led by Devon Wills, the sixth-year Carole Kleinfelder Head Coach for Harvard Women's Lacrosse. The Crimson has increased its win total over the last three seasons under Wills, from seven in 2022 to eight in 2023 and ten in 2024.
  • Last season's 10-win performance (10-5) was the program's first since the 2011 squad finished at 10-6. The Crimson finished at least five games over .500 for the first time since Kleinfelder's 1994 team posted an 11-4 record.
  • Harvard enters 2025 coming off its third straight Ivy League Tournament appearance, its longest streak since qualifying in 2014, 2015, 2016, and 2017.
  • Since a win at Holy Cross on March 11, 2023, Harvard is 24-9 in its last 33 regular-season games.
DEEP DIVE
  • Charlotte HodgsonCallie BatchelderCaroline Mullahy, and Grace Mullahy have been driving the Crimson offense this season.
  • Caroline Mullahy leads the team with 40 points in 9 games.
  • Mullahy is one of two players in the Ivy League with 40 points. 
  • Batchelder recorded a seven-point game against the Huskies, while Mullahy added a seven-point game in the home opener against UAlbany.

  • Hodgson leads the team with 20 goals and 10 assists. 
ROOKIE WATCH
  • Tori Balser has been on a run in her last five games.
  • With five points in her first three games in a Crimson uniform, Balser has 14 points in her last five games. 
  • Balser has points in four of her last five games and in seven of nine games this season. 
  • In her last five games she has recorded 10 goals and four assists. 
LEADING THE CRIMSON
  • Annabel ChildCharley Meier, and Caroline Mullahy were named captains during the offseason.
  • Mullahy led the nation in assists per game (3.67) and earned honorable mention All-Ivy recognition.
  • Annabel Child recorded a team-high 25 caused turnovers and 33 ground balls, ranking second on the team.
  • Child anchored a Crimson defense that ranked eighth in the NCAA in ground balls per game, averaging 20.08.
  • Meier started in 14 of 15 games last season, tallying 11 goals and two assists for 13 points while also earning an Academic All-Ivy nod.
AMONG THE NATION'S BEST
  • As a team, the Crimson finished in the top 10 nationally in four major statistical categories last season.
  • The Crimson defense ranked eighth in the nation, averaging 20.08 ground balls per game.
  • Led by Caroline Mullahy, Harvard finished fourth in the nation with 8.78 assists per game.
  • With three players recording 60+ points, the Crimson averaged 24.73 points per game, ranking fifth in the nation.
  • Scoring more than 200 goals for the first time since 2018, Harvard finished with 240 goals in 15 games. Averaging 16.00 goals per game, the Crimson recorded its highest single-season goal total in more than 15 years, ranking seventh nationally in goals per game.
