Women's Lacrosse Heads to Ithaca to Take on Big Red

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – No. 22 women's lacrosse heads to Ithaca to take on the Big Red in another key Ivy matchup on Saturday. 

Coming off a win over No. 14 Penn, the Crimson scored four consecutive goals in the first and second quarters on Saturday to help lead Harvard to its third-ranked victory of the year. 

Game time is scheduled for 12:00 p.m. from Schoellkopf Field and will stream live on ESPN+. 

WHAT TO KNOW 

SETTING THE SCENE 
  • Harvard got back to .500 in conference play after the win over the Quakers. 
  • The Crimson has now defeated Dartmouth and Penn in Ivy play. 
  • Cornell also sits at 2-2 in play this season after early season wins over Brown and Columbia. 
  • The Big Red has fallen to Dartmouth before a tight loss to No. 7 Princeton last weekend. 
  • A key game in determining the Ivy League standings, Yale, Cornell, and Harvard all sit at 2-2 heading into the weekend. 
LAST TIME OUT 
  • Charley Meier netted a hat-trick in the win over Penn. 
  • Caroline Mullahy continued her dominance on the offensive side of the ball after four assists. 
  • Annabel Child scored a remarkable behind-the-back goal to give the Crimson a 9-8 lead before Charlotte Hodgson's 22nd goal of the season. 
  • The win over the Quakers was the first since a 9-8 road win in 2022 and the first at Jordan Field since 1999. 
DEEP DIVE
  • Charlotte HodgsonCallie BatchelderCaroline Mullahy, and Grace Mullahy have been driving the Crimson offense this season.
  • Caroline Mullahy leads the team with 49 points in 11 games.
  • Mullahy is fifth in the Ivy League in points and third in assists. 
  • Batchelder recorded a seven-point game against the Huskies, while Mullahy added a seven-point game in the home opener against UAlbany.
  • Batchelder scored five goals against Bryant for her second five point game of the season. The Sophomore now has two five-point games and a seven point game. 
  • Last season, Grace Mullahy had 12 points in 11 games as a rookie. This season, the younger Mullahy sister has 24 points in 11 games, and is second on the team in goals.
  • Similarly, Charlotte Hodgson had 25 points in 15 games as a rookie, 21 points in 15 games as a sophomore, and already has 34 points in 11 games this season.
  • Hodgson leads the team with 23 goals.
 
LOOKING BACK 
  • The Crimson jumped out to an early 4-0 lead last season against the Big Red which helped lead it to a 13-5 victory. 
  • Scoring eight of its 13 goals in the first and fourth quarters, Caroline Mullahy recorded 4 points in the game while Despina Giannakopoulos recorded nine ground balls. 
CRIMSON QUICK HITS
  • Harvard is led by Devon Wills, the sixth-year Carole Kleinfelder Head Coach for Harvard Women's Lacrosse. The Crimson has increased its win total over the last three seasons under Wills, from seven in 2022 to eight in 2023 and ten in 2024.
  • Last season's 10-win performance (10-5) was the program's first since the 2011 squad finished at 10-6. The Crimson finished at least five games over .500 for the first time since Kleinfelder's 1994 team posted an 11-4 record.
  • Harvard enters 2025 coming off its third straight Ivy League Tournament appearance, its longest streak since qualifying in 2014, 2015, 2016, and 2017.
  • Since a win at Holy Cross on March 11, 2023, Harvard is 25-10 in its last 35 regular-season games.
LEADING THE CRIMSON
  • Annabel ChildCharley Meier, and Caroline Mullahy were named captains during the offseason.
  • Mullahy led the nation in assists per game (3.67) and earned honorable mention All-Ivy recognition.
  • Annabel Child recorded a team-high 25 caused turnovers and 33 ground balls, ranking second on the team.
  • Child anchored a Crimson defense that ranked eighth in the NCAA in ground balls per game, averaging 20.08.
  • Meier started in 14 of 15 games last season, tallying 11 goals and two assists for 13 points while also earning an Academic All-Ivy nod.
AMONG THE NATION'S BEST
  • As a team, the Crimson finished in the top 10 nationally in four major statistical categories last season.
  • The Crimson defense ranked eighth in the nation, averaging 20.08 ground balls per game.
  • Led by Caroline Mullahy, Harvard finished fourth in the nation with 8.78 assists per game.
  • With three players recording 60+ points, the Crimson averaged 24.73 points per game, ranking fifth in the nation.
  • Scoring more than 200 goals for the first time since 2018, Harvard finished with 240 goals in 15 games. Averaging 16.00 goals per game, the Crimson recorded its highest single-season goal total in more than 15 years, ranking seventh nationally in goals per game.
