CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Women's Lacrosse closed out its regular season with a dominating win over Columbia on Saturday afternoon. Behind a fast start and another standout performance from
Charlotte Hodgson and
Caroline Mullahy, the Crimson capped its regular season with an 18-4 win over the Lions.
Caroline Mullahy was the story on senior night as the captain picked up her 150
th career assist on the final goal of the game, as she becomes just the 15
th player in NCAA history to have at least 150 assists.
With the win, Harvard improved to 9-6 overall and finished 3-4 in Ivy League play. The Crimson controlled the game from start to finish, winning the draw control battle 18-8, forcing 16 turnovers, and outshooting the Lions 38-18.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Crimson fell behind early but would score the next eight goals of the game to take an 8-1 lead heading into the second quarter. A first-quarter hat-trick from
Charlotte Hodgson helped the Crimson jump out to a commanding lead in the early goings.
Charlotte Hodgson wasn't the only Crimson who had a strong start as
Grace Mullahy,
Stella Shea, and
Tori Balser all recorded two points apiece in the first eight minutes..
The Crimson continued to roll into the second quarter. Goals from Mullahy,
Nicole Giannakopoulos, and
Charley Meier extended the lead to 14-2 by halftime. Harvard's defense held Columbia to just one goal per quarter, with
Lizzie Francioli making nine saves between the pipes.
In the second half, Harvard kept up the pressure.
Charlotte Hodgson added two more goals to finish with five on the day, while
Stella Shea completed her hat trick on a free-position goal. The Crimson defense allowed just three shots on goal after halftime and forced multiple turnovers to preserve the big win.
