CARY, N.C. – Charlotte Owensby and the doubles pairing of
Stephanie Yakoff and
Kavya Karra both advanced in the prequalifying draws of the ITA All-American Championships today.
First, in the singles draw, Owensby put up a dominant performance against Yura Nakagawa (Washington State). The senior defeated her foe 6-1, 6-2 to advance to the next round, where she will face Gloriana Nahum (Oklahoma).
The ninth-seeded duo of Karra and Yakoff then took care of business against Jaquelyn Ogunwale and Sebastianna Scilipoti (Miami). The pairing opened the match by cruising to a 6-1 first-set win. Their opponents got ahead early in the second set, winning the first three, but the Crimson duo settled back in and closed the match with a 7-5 second-set result. Karra and Yakoff will face Maralgoo Chogsomjav and Zhanel Rustemova (Kansas State) tomorrow.
