Men’s Tennis Set to Compete in the Columbia Regional of the ITA Kickoff Weekend

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Harvard men's tennis (0-2) will look to advance to its second ITA Indoor National Championship in three years as it competes in South Carolina at the ITA Kickoff Weekend starting Thursday, January 22 at 2:00 p.m. ET.  The Crimson will face No. 24 Michigan State (0-1) in the opening round. 

What to Know

  • The Crimson, the Spartans, Clemson, and the host South Carolina will make up the Columbia Regional.  The two winners will compete in the tournament championship on Friday at 1:00 p.m. 
  • The regional was originally scheduled for Saturday and Sunday of this week but was rescheduled due to impending weather in the area. 
  • The Crimson started its dual season earlier this week as it traveled to face two opponents in Tennessee.  Harvard is still looking for its first win of the season after falling to Memphis and Middle Tennessee State. 
  • Against Memphis, the Crimson fell narrowly, pushing the Tigers to the wire by receiving singles victories from Rohan Murali, Nathan Blokhin, and Masato Perera
  • Blokhin has continued his strong season campaign by improving to 2-0 for the dual season and being the first Harvard player to double digit singles wins. 
  • Harvard will be looking to return to the ITA Indoor National Championship for the second time in three years. 
  • Two years ago, the Crimson advanced to the national tournament after defeating UCLA and Northwestern on its home courts. 
  • More recently, Harvard narrowly missed returning to the tournament after defeating Georgia for the first time in program history and falling to No. 13 Texas A&M, 4-3. 
  • In the final fall rankings, the Crimson was represented by Melchior Delloye at No. 71 and Benjamin Privara at No. 109 in the singles poll. 
  • Harvard is 5-1 all-time against Michigan State, most recently defeating the Spartans 4-0 in the second round of the NCAA Tournament in 2024. 

Next Up

Following the tournament, Harvard will come home for the first time this season to face Purdue on Friday, January 30 at 5:00 p.m. ET.
