NEW YORK, N.Y. – Harvard women's squash sophomore,
Caroline Fouts, concluded an exceptional run at the CSA Individual National Championships this afternoon with a finish as the National runner-up. Fouts battled in an intense match for the National Championship but would eventually fall to the tournament's top seed, Zeina Zein, 1-3, in a hard-fought match. Fouts recorded four wins on her run to the Ramsay Cup final, posting her best finish ever at the National Tournament.
Fouts battled from the opening rally on the court at Grand Central Terminal, taking an early lead before Zein put together a string of point winners. The sophomore would fall in the first game, 8-11, after the Princeton foe closed out her comeback rally in the opener. A similar situation came true in the second game, with Fouts opening up a 6-0 lead lead on Zein. Another comeback for the foe ended in a tiebreak win as Fouts fell 10-12 to go down 0-2.
Fouts did not shy away in the third game, putting together a terrific 11-5 win to bounce right back and make the score 1-2. The fourth game opened with the foes splitting the first six points – making the score 3-3 – before Zein rallied for three consecutive point wins. The New York native Fouts came all the way back with strong defensive play, eventually taking a 9-8 lead in the game. The intensity in the match continued to ramp up as the sides dueled in the final stretch. Zein tied the score at 9-9 before the match went to 10-10, 11-11 and 12-12. Zein completed the comeback with a 14-12 tiebreak win.
An incredible run for Fouts at the National Championship came to an end for Fouts, who finished as the National Runner-Up.
