CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Harvard wrestling team closed out its Ivy League weekend with a loss to the Penn Quakers this afternoon at the Malkin Athletic Center. The Crimson (4-5, 1-2 Ivy) fell to its Ivy foe, Penn (6-1, 2-1 Ivy), 33-4, to split the weekend. The program celebrated its four-member senior class in a pre-game ceremony before the bout.
How it Happened
Penn won the first four bouts of the match to take a 15-0 lead. Decisions at 125, 133 and a technical fall at 141 and a major decision at 149 helped the Quakers build its early advantage.
The Crimson battled back in the match at 157, when No. 23
Jimmy Harrington posted a 12-3 major decision over his foe to put four points on the board for the Crimson.
The Quakers bounced back with another set of victories at 165 and 174.
Joseph Cangro narrowly fell, 2-1 in the match at 165 and
Haden Bottiglieri also lost by just a point, 5-4, in his match at 174.
Matthew Walsh had his opponent on the ropes, but fell 4-1 in a sudden victory at 184. The Quakers rattled off back-to-back wins at 197 and 285 to post a 33-4 win over Harvard.
UP NEXT
Harvard will have next weekend off before it travels to New York for a pair of matches. The Crimson will first battle Columbia on Saturday (Feb. 14) before traveling to Hofstra to battle the Pride on Sunday (Feb. 15).
