CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Despite a great start, the Crimson fell to Dartmouth in its first Ivy League game of the season by a score of 17-10 on Saturday afternoon at Jordan Field. Seven different Crimson players found the back of the net in the matchup, as Harvard now looks ahead to its second conference game of the season next weekend against Princeton.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Grace Mullahy opened the scoring for the Crimson after Charlotte Hodgson found Mullahy cutting around the crease. Dartmouth quickly answered to tie the game at one before Harvard went right back down into the Big Green end to regain the lead. Hodgson picked up her second assist of the first quarter after finding first-year Natalie Marvin in the slot for her fourth goal of the season.
Kate Gilliam added the fourth Crimson goal before the Big Green stormed back to score the game's next five goals to take a 6-4 lead. Charlotte Hodgson responded to make it 6-5 before another five-goal run had the Crimson down by five.
Harvard scored twice in the third quarter to cut the deficit heading into the fourth.
Harvard started to push the pace in the fourth to try and complete its second comeback of the last week, thanks to two goals from Callie Batchelder to make it a 12-9 game.
Dartmouth responded with two of its own to regain its commanding lead. However, the Crimson would not back down as Batchelder completed a fourth-quarter hat trick.
Dartmouth closed the game out with a pair of goals to take it 17-10.
