Cambridge, Mass. – Harvard University junior Owen Woolbert earned Eastern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association (EIVA) Defensive Player of the Week honors on Monday, marking his first award of the season and the second of his career.
The middle blocker played a pivotal role in Harvard's weekend sweep of Charleston, compiling 28 total points in what stands as the second-best two-match stretch of his career — surpassed only by his earlier-season performance against NJIT.
On Saturday, Woolbert matched his career high with seven total blocks and added four more on Friday, equaling his career-best total blocks across a two-match weekend. He also recorded a season-high four service aces during the series. On Feb. 27, he posted his second-highest hitting percentage of the season, swinging at a .556 clip with 12 kills and four total blocks. He followed that performance on Feb. 28 by hitting .500 with six kills and seven total blocks.
Through the season, Woolbert has totaled 101 kills, 36 total blocks, 28 digs, and 134 points.
Woolbert and the Crimson return to action at home Friday, March 6 at 7:00 p.m. against AIC, before hosting St. Thomas Aquinas on Saturday, March 7 at 5:00 p.m. Both matches will be streamed on ESPN, with Friday's contest also available on NESN.
