CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – In an in-state battle versus No. 62 UMass this afternoon in the Murr Center, No. 75 Harvard women's tennis came out on top, 4-1.
The Crimson opened the contest by stealing the doubles point in come from behind fashion. Harvard first received a 6-4 win on court one courtesy of
Kavya Karra and
Anna-Raphaëlle Serghi. Then,
Claire Shao and
Kate Kim stormed back from down 3-0 to win 6-4 on court two, securing a 1-0 lead for Harvard.
Harvard then moved quickly in singles beginning with Karra recording a 6-3, 6-3 win at the top court. The victory marks Karra's first win at the first singles spot this season. The junior has wins at the No. 1, 2, 3, and 4 spots this year.
Shao followed with another straight set victory, defeating Amelia Tye (UMass), 7-5, 6-2.
The Minutewomen picked up their sole point of the day at court three before the Crimson clinched the match. Kim providing the clinching point with a strong 6-4, 6-2 win over Fiona Ao (UMass) on court four.
