Women's Lacrosse Heads to New Haven to take on No. 8 Yale

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Women's lacrosse heads to New Haven to take on No. 8 Yale for the first of three straight road games to close the regular season.

First draw is scheduled for 12:00 p.m. and will stream live on ESPN+.

LAST TIME OUT

  • Kate Gilliam opened the scoring for the Crimson on a free-position shot before Cornell tied the game at one apiece. Charlotte Hodgson followed with two straight goals for Harvard, including one as the shot clock expired.
  • Callie Batchelder controlled the ball behind the cage before lobbing it over the Cornell netminder to Hodgson, who finished for another highlight-reel goal for the senior. Hodgson then netted her second of the game shortly after on another free-position attempt.
  • The Crimson added its third goal in 1:15 after Cecila Batchelder won the draw, raced upfield, and found first-year Natalie Marvin for a goal in transition. Cornell added one of its own before the end of the first quarter, giving Harvard a 4-2 lead.
  • The Big Red responded in the second quarter with three straight goals to tie the game at four.
  • Cecila Batchelder put the Crimson back in front with a free-position goal, but Cornell answered with two more to take its first lead of the game, 6-5, with 6:44 left in the second. The Big Red controlled the remainder of the half, outscoring Harvard to take a 10–6 lead into the break.
  • Harvard came out strong in the third quarter, scoring four consecutive goals, beginning with another Gilliam free-position shot. Tori Balser added two goals, including a powerful shot from the top of the slot, before Grace Mullahy tied the game at 10 with 4:20 remaining in the quarter.
  • Cornell briefly regained the lead at 11–10, but Cecila Batchelder answered with her second goal to tie it at 11-11.
  • Cornell scored twice in the fourth quarter to secure the 13-11 victory.
LOOKING BACK
  • Caroline Mullahy recorded her 200th career point last year in a 14-9 loss to the Yale Bulldogs at Jordan Field.
  • Becoming just the seventh player in program history to reach 200 career points, Mullahy has totaled 19 goals and 43 assists this season through 13 games. After already setting a new career high in goals, the senior is just eight points away from tying her career best of 70 points.
  • Yale opened with two quick goals before Callie Batchelder scored a beautiful behind-the-back goal off a feed from Caroline Mullahy to make it 2-1 at the end of the first.
  • The Bulldogs dominated the second quarter, outscoring Harvard 8-3. After a tying goal from Charley Meier early in the period, Yale went on a six-goal run. Caroline Mullahy and Nicole Giannakopoulos helped close the gap at the end of the half, but Yale took a 10-4 lead into the break.
  • Harvard came out strong in the third, scoring the first two goals of the half from Callie Batchelder and Grace Mullahy to make it a 10-6 game. Batchelder and Mullahy both added their 21st goals of the season to make it a four-goal game. However, the Bulldogs responded with a pair of goals of their own to regain the six-goal lead.

LAST SEASON AT A GLANCE

  • Consistently ranked in the top 25 all season, Harvard opened the year with three wins in its first four games, defeating UAlbany at Jordan Field in the season opener before notching upsets over No. 15 Navy and No. 23 UConn in late February.
  • Caroline Mullahy was the story of the season, rewriting the Harvard, Ivy League, and NCAA record books. She tallied her 100th career assist in the season opener against UAlbany, broke the Harvard program record with her 112th assist against Bryant in late March, and then broke the Ivy League record in her next game against Brown.
  • Mullahy became just the seventh player in program history to record 200 career points after a six-point outing against Yale. She added two assists in the final game of the season to become just the 15th player in NCAA history to record 150+ career assists.
  • Mullahy was joined by Annabel Child as All-Ivy First Team selections, and both were named USA Lacrosse All-Americans after earning honorable mention recognition.
NEW TO THE GROUP
  • The Crimson welcomes eight new members to the program as part of the Class of 2029.
  • Three members of the rookie class were named to the Inside Lacrosse Power 100 rankings, with Lexie Koch ranked No. 40, while Emerson Midura and Cecelia Batchelder received honorable mention recognition.

LEADING THE GROUP

  • Despina Giannakopoulos and Kate Gilliam are set to lead the Crimson this season.
  • Giannakopoulos started all 14 games last season and all 15 the year before, serving as a key member of the defensive unit throughout her tenure.
  • Gilliam returns for her senior season after appearing in 29 games during her Crimson career. The New York native scored three goals last season.

KEY RETURNERS

  • Offensive leaders Charlotte Hodgson, Callie Batchelder, and Grace Mullahy all return for the Crimson.
  • Batchelder recorded a career-high 45 points (26 goals, 18 assists) in her sophomore campaign.
  • Hodgson added a career-best 40 points after leading the team with 30 goals.
  • Playing alongside her sister, Grace Mullahy increased her point production by 33 points in her sophomore season.
