Women’s Rugby Posts 3-0 Record, Advances to Semifinals on Day One of CRAA 7s National Championship

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Harvard University women's rugby posted an undefeated 3-0 record on day one of the CRAA 7s National Championship on Saturday at Kuntz Stadium with the Crimson winning both of its pool play games prior to its quarterfinal matchup to advance to Sunday's semifinals on day two.
 
Competing in Pool B, Harvard entered the quarterfinals as the No. 1 seed following pool play victories over Life (12-7) and Davenport (41-0). The Crimson then topped No. 8 seed Mount St. Mary's (34-5) in the quarterfinals.
 
In tomorrow's semifinal, No. 1 seed Harvard will meet No. 4 seed Lindenwood at 11:18 a.m. (CRAA YouTube) prior to either the third-place match at 4:04 p.m. or the championship final at 4:30 p.m. Sunday's other semifinal will feature No. 2 seed Army and No. 6 seed Life.
 
The Crimson tallied 15 tries on the day from nine different student-athletes with Cameron Fields leading the team with four tries. Victoria Stanley notched three tries while Josephine Mignone registered two tries.
   

Harvard Highlights

  • Harvard posted a 3-0 day as a team, winning both of its pool play games behind victories over Life (12-7) and Davenport (41-0) before topping Mount St. Mary's in the quarterfinals (34-5).
  • The Crimson tallied 15 tries on the day from nine different student-athletes with Cameron Fields leading the team with four tries. Victoria Stanley notched three tries while Josephine Mignone registered two tries. Dana Greer, Madelyn Hubbell, Skylar Jordan, Lennox London, Sana'a Lunon, and Tiahna Padilla each scoring one try. Jordan added five conversions while Mignone tacked on a conversion.
  • In the Crimson's opener, Harvard took a 12-7 win over Life. After Life scored the game's opening try to move ahead 7-0, a try from Lunon and conversion from Jordan tied the score at 7-7 at the half. In the second half, a try from Fields gave the Crimson the win.
  • In Harvard's finale in pool play, the Crimson posted a 41-0 shutout win over Davenport with Fields, Mignone, and Stanley each tallying two tries in the game. The Crimson grabbed a 17-0 lead at halftime behind two tries from Stanley and a try from Padilla. Harvard outscored Davenport 24-0 in the second half with Fields and Mignone each scoring two tries. Jordan made three conversions in the contest.
  • In the quarterfinals, Harvard bested Mount St. Mary's, 34-5, with six different members of the Crimson scoring a try. Harvard jumped out to a 22-0 lead at halftime behind tries from Hubbell, Fields, Stanley, and London. The Crimson tacked on two more tries in the second half from Jordan and Greer.
  • For the 7s season, Fields leads the program with 10 tries while London has scored nine tries. Hubbell, Lunon, Mignone, and Stanley have each registered eight tries.
