CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Harvard men's tennis (11-10, 1-1 Ivy) split the weekend, falling to No. 40 Penn (16-7, 2-1 Ivy), 4-1, this afternoon in Cambridge.
The Crimson nearly had more comeback heroics to open the match as it fell behind in each of the doubles matches. Behind their top-30 duo on court one, the Quakers struck first, but Harvard battled from behind on the other two courts. After trailing 5-3,
James MacDonald and
Masato Perera fought back, winning four straight games to steal court three.
Kolos Kincses and
Rohan Murali also battled back but ultimately fell short, awarding the Quakers an early advantage in the match.
Penn carried the momentum of the doubles point into singles, quickly grabbing wins on courts three and five.
Harvard, however, applied pressure to the Quakers, with first-set wins on the top three courts.
Benjamin Privara got the Crimson on the board with a convincing 6-4, 6-3 win over Luka Butera (Penn) on court one. It would be the only point of the day for Harvard, though, as the Quakers closed out the match on court six to clinch the win.
