IRVINE, Calif. – Four Harvard women's water polo players were named to the Association of College Water Polo Coaches All-America team on Thursday. Four picks, which includes two third-team selections and two honorable mentions, are the most in a single season in program history.
Sophomore goalie
Orli Cooper (Greensboro, N.C.) and junior attacker
Maya O'Dea (Long Beach, Calif.) were each named to the ACWPC All-America Third Team. This season marks the first time Harvard landed two players on the third team, the fourth time in the last five years with a third-team All-American and the fifth and sixth All-Americans all-time in program history. Cooper and O'Dea, a two-time Honorable Mention pick, were each Honorable Mentions on last year's All-American team.
Sophomore defense
Niki Piovan (Vouliagmeni, Greece) and junior center defender
Emma Gilbert (Santa Barabra, Calif.) were named ACWPC Honorable Mention. This marks Piovan's first All-America Honorable Mention, while Gilbert was chosen as an Honorable Mention for the third year in a row.
Cooper, the MVP of the CWPA Tournament, backstopped the Crimson to a second program-record 26-win season. She finished the season with 222 saves and 17 steals.
O'Dea led Harvard with 71 goals and 50 assists on the season. She added 26 steals, seven blocks and nine drawn turnovers.
Despite playing defense, Piovan was second on Harvard in scoring with 56 goals. She contributed 25 assists, a team-leading 33 steals, 19 DKOs and 13 blocks. Gilbert rounds out the All-America contingent after scoring 38 goals from her center spot in the Crimson defense. She was also credited with 31 assists, 31 steals, a team-high 33 DKOs and 13 blocks.
For the season, Harvard went 26-4 and won the CWPA Championship for the second year in a row. The Crimson also qualified for the NCAA tournament for a second consecutive season. All four All-America selections return for Harvard in 2027.
