CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Harvard women's soccer (4-2-1) earned a 1-0 victory over crosstown foe Northeastern (2-3-2) on Thursday night at Jordan Field. Ólöf Kristinsdóttir scored the match's lone goal in the 16th minute as the Crimson controlled the run of play and held the Huskies to just three shots.
Harvard finished with a 23-3 advantage in shots, including a 9-1 edge in shots on goal, and took eight corner kicks to Northeastern's two.
Olivia Busby and
Nicole Bidun split the match in goal to combine for the shutout, while Kristinsdóttir's fifth goal of the season proved to be the difference.
How it Happened
- Harvard established pressure from the opening minutes, earning two corner kicks inside the first nine minutes and producing several early attempts on goal.
- The Crimson broke through at 15:01. Brooke Huleatt forced a save from Northeastern goalkeeper Eliza Teplow, and Kristinsdóttir finished the sequence for her fifth goal of the season, with Huleatt credited with the assist.
- Harvard continued to press after taking the lead. Huleatt and Jasmine Leshnick both forced first-half saves, while the Crimson built a 13-1 advantage in shots and a 5-0 edge in corners before halftime.
- Northeastern's lone first-half attempt came from Bridget Durkin in the 28th minute, but the shot went high.
- Bidun replaced Busby in goal to begin the second half as Harvard protected its one-goal advantage.
- The Huskies created their best chance shortly after the restart, when Maddie Aughe put a shot on target in the 49th minute, but Bidun made the save.
- Harvard kept Northeastern under pressure throughout the second half, generating 10 more shots. Teplow made four second-half saves to keep the Huskies within one.
- Northeastern threatened again in the 83rd minute, but Claire Murray's attempt was blocked. Harvard saw out the remaining minutes to secure the 1-0 result.
