Men's Water Polo Splits at Bruno Invite

Harvard falls at buzzer to CUI; finishes strong against Johns Hopkins.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- The Harvard men's water polo team split the day at the Bruno Invite with a buzzer-beater loss to Concordia followed by a win over Johns Hopkins to snap a seven-game losing streak. The Crimson moved to 3-9 on the season with results of 19-18 and 17-13.

CUI (7-6) never trailed in the game, scoring the first two goals of the morning and leading by as many as four at 9-5. Harvard came back to tie the game on five occasions, including as late as 18-18. The Golden Eagles called timeout with 2.8 seconds remaining and got the game-winning from Levi Riegelman as time expired. CUI was led in scoring by Joao Goncalves and Hugo Wouters with five apiece. The Crimson's leading goal scorer was Dean Strauser at four.

In game two, Johns Hopkins held the edge after one quarter of play despite Harvard getting out to an early lead. However, the Crimson dominated the second quarter 9-1 and held the lead the rest of the way. Harvard's lead was trimmed to one in the third as the Blue Jays regused to go quietly, but the Crimson finished strong; led by Strauser for the second game in a row with a four-goal performance.
