Women’s Soccer Opens Ivy Play With 4-3 Win at Princeton

PRINCETON, N.J. – Harvard women's soccer extends its winning streak to six matches, as the Crimson start Ivy League action with a back-and-forth 4-3 victory at Princeton.

Known for its fast starts, Harvard's attack once again found success in the first half, as Brooke Huleatt and Ólöf Kristinsdóttir each scored in the first half to open an early 2-0 advantage for the Crimson. Princeton would strike twice before the halftime to push the score to 2-2, as the Crimson would regain the lead in the second with goals from Kristinsdóttir and Jasmine Leshnick to secure the 4-3 victory.

How it Happened

  • Both sides would maintain possession in the opening 15 minutes of the match, as Harvard (7-2-1, 1-0-0 Ivy League) took the first shots of the day, forcing a save in the from Princeton's (4-4-1, 0-1-0) Cecilia Cerone just two minutes into the contest.
  • In the 21st minute, Harvard would pull ahead, Huleatt received the ball in ackers of space on the left flank, as the first-year took a dribble and buried a chance for the opening strike.
  • Just five minutes later, Harvard doubled the lead, as a fantastic first touch in the middle of the box from Kristinsdóttir set up her first goal of the afternoon, 2-0.
  • At the 30 minute mark, Princeton would pull a goal back, as the Tigers would equalize in the 37th minute with a goal from Stella Monberg.
  • Heading into the halftime break all tied up at two, Harvard recorded eight shots, holding the hosts to two. Both sides took five corners kicks in the opening 15 minutes from the Garden State as well.
  • After 17 scoreless minutes in the second half, Harvard regained the lead in the 62nd minute. Huleatt continued to dictate play on the left wing, as the Rifton, New York native found Kristinsdóttir in the box with a cross for the Crimson's third goal of the day.
  • Leshnick wrote her name on the scoresheet in the 74th minute, as her free kick from the left wing skipped across goal and into the far post her fourth goal of the season.
  • Princeton would pull within a goal in the 75th minute with another goal from Monberg, as the Crimson defense would hold strong in the final 15 minutes to secure the win.
  • Harvard recorded 14 shots, six of them on goal, as Princeton would take 18 shots this afternoon. First-year keeper Olivia Busby recorded four saves, all of them arriving in the second half.

  • Huleatt records four points in a match for the fourth time this season, matching her career-high today with a goal and two assists against the Tigers.
