The Beren Tennis Center, Harvard University's outdoor tennis facility, is named for Robert M. Beren '47 MBA '50 and was completely renovated and reopened in April of 2000. The state-of-the-art seasonal center boasts 18 courts -- six of which feature stadium seating -- a two-tiered pavilion with restrooms, office/meeting space, and court-viewing areas that accommodate nearly 500 spectators. Combined with the six indoor courts at the Murr Center, the nationally ranked tennis teams have perhaps the finest facilities of any team in the Northeast. The Beren Center has hosted several prestigious tournaments as well as the first and second rounds of the NCAA Championships since its renovation.

The original, eight-court Beren Tennis Center was dedicated on April 23, 1983 as a gift of Beren and his son Adam '83, an All-American and two-year captain. It was the intention of the Beren family in making the gift that the center should benefit "not only Harvard teams but tennis players in the Harvard community as a worthwhile and relaxing adjunct to the pursuit of academic excellence."

In stepping forward a second time to benefit Harvard tennis, Robert Beren wanted "to ensure the Harvard community had a facility that was on par with any university in the country."
