Chris City was named as Harvard’s head coach of the men’s and women’s Nordic skiing teams on June 9, 2008 and enters his 15th season as the program's Paul J. Finnegan Family Head Coach for Harvard Nordic Skiing in 2022-23.
 
This is City’s second stint with the Nordic program after serving as co-head coach during the 1996-97 program before stepping down to attend law school.
 
In 2021-22, City coached James Kitch ’23 to his third appearance at the NCAA Championships with Kitch placing 26^th in both the 10k classic and 20k freestyle. Remi Drolet ’24 represented the Crimson at the 2022 Beijing Olympic Games, competing for Team Canada.
 
The 2019-20 season saw Harvard host its first-ever home event with the Harvard Carnival. City guided sophomore James Kitch to the best individual nordic performance in team history, placing 13th at the NCAA Championships after receiving EISA All-East second team honors. Drolet earned EISA Rookie of the Year and was named EISA All-East first team before finishing fourth in the 30km at the 2020 World Junior Nordic Championships.
 
In 2018-19, both Hannah Hardenberg ’19 and Kitch competed at the NCAA Championships while in 2017-18, Nina Armstrong ’19 represented the Crimson at NCAAs.
 
City helped lead the Crimson to four top-ten finishes in six carnivals in 2016-17.
 
City guided junior Rachel Hampton to her second-straight NCAA Championships in 2015-16 after posting the top finish for the Crimson in all but one of Harvard's 11 Nordic races, while also posting a pair of top-10 finishes.
 
City sent two athletes to the NCAA Championships in 2014-15, as senior Akeo Maifeld-Carucci earned a top-25 finish and was named to the EISA All-East second team. Maifeld-Carucci started the season with a bang as the first Nordic skier since 2004 to earn a spot on the podium at the Bates Carnival.
 
The 2013-14 season was one of Harvard Nordic skiing's finest, as City saw a number of his athletes record multiple top-10 finishes in competitive EISA carnival fields. Jen Rolfes '14 earned a spot on the EISA All-Eastern squad with a strong performance at regionals, and three Nordic skiers (Rolfes, Chris Stock '14 and Akeo Maifeld-Carucci '15) qualified for the 2014 NCAA Championships in Park City, Utah. The trio represented Harvard's largest NCAA contingent in program history.
 
The 2014 campaign also saw City receive the prestigious Marquand Award, and Harvard award given to those in the community that provide exemplary advising and counseling to students. City was one of just three winners, selected from a pool of 125 candidates.
 
City has been a member of the Crimson’s coaching staff since the 2006-07 season under then-head coach Peter Graves. In that role, City designed the team’s training plan, led practices, provided instruction, and assisted at carnivals and other races.
 
City is a 1994 Harvard graduate and a former captain of the Harvard Nordic ski team. Following his graduation from Harvard, City attended the University of North Carolina School of Law and subsequently practiced law in the Boston area while remaining active in master’s skiing and coaching.
