Guogang Wen joined the staff in 2002-03 as an assistant men'sand women's coach.

Wen, a native of China, arrived in the United States in thesummer of 2000. Before coming to America, Wen served as both theNational and Olympic coach of the Chinese National Fencing Teamfrom 1977 until 1996.

Under Wen's leadership, the Chinese ranked consistently amongthe world's top fencing programs and claimed numerous individualand team medals in the Asian Games, the World University Games, theWorld Fencing Championships, and the Olympic Games.

Included among the elite athletes trained by Wen are Luan Jujie,the gold medalist in women's foil at the 1984 Olympics, along withWang Huifeng, the silver-medal winner in women's foil at the 1992Barcelona Games.
