Abbie Verbeke joined the Harvard Sports Medicine staff as an athletic trainer in Aug. 2025, and works primarily with women’s rugby and the men’s and women’s swimming and diving programs.
Prior to arriving in Cambridge, Verbeke served as an athletic trainer at Rhodes College in Memphis, Tennessee. During her time in The Bluff City, which began in Aug. 2022, Verbeke worked with a variety of teams, including women’s soccer, women’s basketball, men’s lacrosse, softball, cross country, track and field, and volleyball.
While completing her undergraduate and graduate coursework at West Chester University of Pennsylvania, Verbeke gained clinical experience across several levels. During the 2020-21 academic year, Verbeke worked at B. Reed Henderson High School in West Chester, caring for the football, men’s soccer, women’s soccer, field hockey and tennis programs, before spending the spring at The Haverford School. While in Haverford, Verbeke worked with the wrestling, basketball, squash, lacrosse and baseball teams.
Verbeke spent the summer of 2021 at the professional level, joining the staff of the Philadelphia Union II, which is a pro men’s soccer team that competes in MLS Next Pro. Her athletic training journey then took her to Villanova where she spent the fall of 2021 working with men’s soccer and men’s and women’s swimming and diving. Then to close out her time at West Chester, Verbeke stayed in town to work with the university’s field hockey, volleyball, tennis, track and field, swimming, and men’s and women’s soccer programs for the Spring 2022 term.
A leader while on campus at West Chester, Verbeke was an active member of the WCU Athletic Training Club (2017-22), served as the Pennsylvania State Representative for the EATA Student Delegation (2020-22), and was a three-time scholarship winner (2021 NATA James Thornton Leadership Scholarship Award, 2021 PATS NATA District II Joe Iezzi Scholarship Award, 2022 EATA District 2 Charles Thompson Scholarship Award).
Verbeke earned a Bachelor of Science in health science, with a concentration in sports medicine, from West Chester in 2020, and a Master of Science in athletic training from the school in 2022.
