Darin Wong arrived at Harvard in November of 2018, as an assistant director of athletic communications after a 13-plus-year stint at San Diego State and was promoted to associate director in December 2019. In April 2022, he was elevated to director of communications. He currently serves as the primary media contact for men's basketball, football and softball. Wong's other sport duties include overseeing coverage for men's and women's fencing, and women's tennis. He has also worked with Harvard's men's lacrosse, men's and women's heavyweight rowing, sailing, women's soccer, men's and women's squash, and wrestling teams.
Wong began his career at SDSU as a media relations assistant in 2004-05, working with women's swimming and diving, men's and women's tennis, and women's water polo. In 2005-06, Wong added men's basketball to his list of responsibilities and served as the media point of contact as the Aztecs won the Mountain West regular-season and tournament championships en route to the NCAA tournament.
After two successful seasons at San Diego State, Wong was elevated to an assistant director of media relations ahead of the 2006-07 campaign. As an assistant director, Wong worked primarily with men's basketball, women's soccer and women's water polo, while also covering women's basketball, women's cross country, men's soccer and women's track and field at various times. From 2006-07 to 2014-15, Wong was the media contact for a men's hoops program that went to nine straight postseason tournaments, six of which were of the NCAA variety, including a pair of Sweet 16 appearances.
In July of 2015, Wong was named SDSU assistant athletic director for media relations. He continued to work with the highly successful men's basketball, women's soccer and women's water polo programs, while overseeing the department's student volunteers and interns, and managing the Aztecs' social media efforts. During his two-plus years as assistant athletic director, Wong was involved in numerous athletic department and campus-related projects in addition to his media relations responsibilities.
Wong, a native of Torrance, California, graduated from San Diego State in 2004, with a bachelor's degree in communication with an emphasis in media management and a minor in marketing.
