John Ronan

John Ronan was hired to head coach Rob Rassey's inaugural coaching staff as an assistant coach in August 2026.

Ronan recently completed his 12th season in Schenectady in 2025-26 after beginning his career with the Garnet Chargers during the 2013-14 season as a volunteer assistant coach, the year Union won the national championship.

In 2025-26, Ronan helped Union to a 22-12-3 record and the program's first 20-win season since 2018-19. He also helped oversee a power-play unit that scored 34 goals from 11 different players.

Ronan previously served as Union's interim head coach for the final 17 games of the 2021-22 season, guiding the team to a first-round sweep of Princeton in the ECAC Hockey Tournament.

Before returning to Union in 2016, Ronan coached at Mercyhurst and with the Youngstown Phantoms of the USHL, helping Youngstown win the 2015 Anderson Cup Championship.

A native of South Boston, Massachusetts, Ronan played four seasons at the University of Maine from 2001-05, recording 47 points in 132 career games and serving as team captain as a senior. He later played seven seasons professionally before beginning his coaching career.
