PEMBROKE, N.H.-The Radcliffe heavyweight and
lightweight crews began their fall season by taking the top three
and four of the top five spots in the women's open eight at the New
Hampshire Championships, hosted by Amoskeag Rowing Club, Saturday
on the Merrimack River.
The Black and White raced three heavyweight boats, Radcliffe A,
B, and C; and two lightweight boats, Radcliffe D and E. With a
strong tail wind combined with strong tail current, the race was
fast; the Radcliffe A boat finished first with a time of 15:20.48.
Junior Olivia Coffey stroked the winning entry and was joined by
Tara Larson, Kirsten Van Fossen, Liz Soutter, Katie O'Hanlon, Mary
Jackson, Meg Kehan, Rachel Knaster and coxswain Alyssa Murray.
Radcliffe B crossed the line only three-tenths of a second off
the pace of Radcliffe A, with a time of 15:20.71. Radcliffe D
finished third, first among lightweight boats, with a time of
15:33.73. Boston College A placed fourth with a time of
15:53.23, and Radcliffe E finished fifth with a time of
15:57.27. Radcliffe C finished 14th overall with a time of
16:53.32.
The Black and White sees its first competitive action on the
Charles River in 2009-10 next weekened, when it competes in the
45th Head of the Charles Regatta, the world's largest two-day
rowing event.
