CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Senior midfielder Jason
Duboe of the 12th-ranked Harvard men's lacrosse team is among
20 of the nation's best men's lacrosse players who were
selected as the 2010 candidates for the Lowe's Senior CLASS
Award for displaying both on-field and off-field excellence.
To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified
as an NCAA Division I senior and have notable achievements in four
areas of excellence – classroom, character, community and
competition. The 20 candidates will be narrowed to 10 finalists
midway through the regular season, and those 10 names will be
placed on the official ballot. Ballots will be distributed through
a nationwide voting system to media, coaches and fans, who will
select one finalist.
Lowe's will announce the 2010 Senior CLASS Award winner at
the NCAA Division I men's lacrosse championhip at MT&T
Bank Stadium in Baltimore, Md., May 39-31.
Duboe, who was chosen to the Inside Lacrosse preseason
All-America honorable mention team and preseason All-Ivy League
first team, ranked third on Harvard with 19 points last season. The
native of Long Grove, Ill., scored 11 goals and handed out eight
assists last spring and was on the Tewaaraton Award Watch List. He
was an All-Ivy League second team honoree as a junior and earned
first-team honors as a sophomore after leading Harvard with 26
goals and 32 points in 2008. An NEILA All-New England first team
choice, Duboe also succeeded in the classroom, having earned a spot
on the prestigious Academic All-Ivy League team.
An economics concentrator, Duboe has achieved a 3.44 cumulative
grade-point average during his collegiate career. He is scheduled
to graduate from Harvard in May 2010 and has recently completed a
highly competitive internship at Credit-Suisse, participating in
their sales and trading program.
Duboe became the first Division I lacrosse player from Adlai
Stevenson High School and even taught himself much of the game
while growing up. He became an instant key player at Harvard as a
freshman and transitioned to defensive midfielder last season after
some of his teammates suffered injuries. Duboe has fit the mold of
the Harvard lacrosse community, which focuses on nurturing good
citizens, students and athletes in that order.
In the community, he has donated time in several Habitat for
Humanity projects, as well as tutoring inner city youth.
Individually, he has participated in the Big Brothers/Big Sisters
Program and G.I.V.E. program, which consisted of tutoring special
education program classes. He helped to organize the walk for
humanity, which donates proceeds to giving resources to
impoverished countries. He has also participated in donating and
delivering gifts and canned foods to people who utilize local
homeless shelters. Every year, Duboe and his family help organize
and decorate the Valentine's Day dance for people with mental
disabilities. Duboe has also coached at over 10 camps, helping
students learn how to play lacrosse. In addition, he has served as
a private tutor, and has worked for a small venture capital firm
(Elite College Admissions) which helps students (over 100
internationally) gain admission to college.
