STOCKTON, Calif.- The Harvard women's water
polo team posted a 1-1 record on the final day of matches in the
trip to the Golden State. The Crimson bowed to No. 17 Pacific to
open the day but concluded the journey with a victory. Harvard now
owns an 11-8 mark on the year after going 3-3 in the week-long
swing.
Harvard dropped an 11-5 decision to No. 17 Pacific, Saturday
afternoon. The Crimson managed to fire 33 shots in the contest but
only five found the back of the net. Devan Kennifer registered her
third hat trick of the team's trip to the Golden State. Lizzie
Abbott and Monica Zdrojewski each buried a marker for Harvard.
Laurel McCarthy turned in a solid performance in net, making seven
saves in the loss.
The Crimson took on Cal State Monterey Bay in the squad's west
coast finale. Harvard wrapped up the trip with a 13-10 win. The
Crimson jumped out to a 5-1 lead after the first quarter. The
Otters clawed back into the game, cutting the Harvard lead to 7-6
midway through the game. Cal State Monterey Bay would not back down
as the Crimson clung to a 10-9 advantage in the fourth quarter.
Harvard rattled off three more goals in the final stanza and only
let up two goals down the stretch. Zdrojewski turned in her third
three-goal performance of the team's tour of California.
Ita Barton-Kettleborough tallied a hat trick while Patricia Smith
netted two goals. Abbott, Kennifer, Kelly Peeler and
Aisha Price rounded out the scoring with a goal apiece.
Kennifer also recorded seven steals in the match. McCarthy turned
aside six shots to preserve the win.
Harvard will square off against Marist, March 27, in the
team's final tuneup before Northern Division play kicks off.
