Harvard took a 5-0 lead to begin the game before a 10-2 stretch by Arizona State put the hosts in front, 10-7. Chambers' step-back 3-pointer tied the score at 14, and the Crimson went back on top, 17-14, as Saunders crossed up his defender for a step-back 3 of his own. The lead would not hold, however, thanks to a second 10-2 run that gave the Sun Devils a 30-23 margin.

Chambers knocked down his second 3-pointer to cut Harvard's halftime deficit to 32-28. Saunders led all scorers at the break with 13 points and two assists, with Chambers adding 10 points.

A four-point play for Corbin Miller pulled Harvard within 36-34, and a second 3 by Miller made it a 38-37 game. Arizona State responded to regain a 43-37 edge, and led 47-39 with 8:46 to play, forcing the Crimson to call timeout.

Baskets by Saunders and Zena Edosomwan began to pull the momentum in Harvard's favor, but five unanswered points put the Sun Devils back up by nine, 52-43. Arizona State tacked on four points at the free throw line down the stretch and held off a Crimson comeback for the 56-46 victory.
