Harvard fell to Dartmouth for its second loss in Ivy Conference play (Gil Talbot).
HANOVER, N. H. – The Harvard women's rugby squad made a strong second half effort, but fell on the road at Dartmouth by a final score of 20-15. The Crimson fall to 3-2 on the year and 2-2 in Ivy Conference play.
Dartmouth, the leader in the Ivy Conference standings, took the lead early on as it downed its first try off of an overload and followed by pushing a scrum across the goal line to grab an early 10-0 lead.
Despite the fact that Harvard dominated the game offensively for the majority of the first half, the Crimson were not able to cross the goal line until the closing minutes of the half when Genevieve Quirion found Grace Chao, who downed Harvard's first try in the corner of the end zone to make it a 10-5 game at the half.
Harvard's defense held firm, making several key tackles to hold Big Green's high-powered offense from scoring several tries, but Dartmouth scored a try off of the blindside and followed with another try shortly after to take a 20-5 advantage.
The Crimson wouldn't go down without a fight as Caitlin Weigel downed a try off of a scrum and Quirion touched down another score to put Harvard within a try of tying the game. Harvard made several furious last-minute efforts to score, but fell by a final tally of 20-15.
Harvard will stay on the road as it will take on Penn Oct. 24 at 1 p.m. in its final regular season contest before the start of the Ivy Tournament Nov. 7.
