Women's Rugby Drops Third Place Ivy Conference Tournament Match to Princeton, 17-12

Claire Collins scored Harvard's first try of the game and her second of the tournament (Gil Talbot).

HANOVER, N.H. – In a physical and tightly contested third-place consolation game at the Ivy Conference tournament, No. 3 seed Harvard could not get past No. 4 seed Princeton, falling 17-12.

Harvard got on the board first as Claire Collins notched a try 10 minutes into the game to put Harvard ahead 5-0.  The Crimson controlled possession for most of the half, but Princeton evened the score midway through the half as Jess Lu scored a try off of a scrum. Caitlin Weigel and Sarah Lipson made key tackles in Harvard's defensive zone, keeping Princeton's attack at bay as the score remained tied at 5-5 at the end of the opening half.

The Crimson and Tigers battled for possession for the majority of the second half. Princeton broke through with the go-ahead try midway through the final frame as Gabrielle Badura crossed the end line and a successful conversion by Emmily Kent put the Tigers ahead 12-5.

Princeton struck again five minutes later, scoring another try off a scrum to further its lead to 17-5. Harvard would not go down without a fight as Lipson responed quickly, sprinting down the field to down another score to put Harvard within a try of tying the game. Harvard made several furious runs in Princeton territory in the final minutes of the game, but could not push another try past the Tigers, falling by a final score of 17-12.

The Crimson fall to an even 4-4 on the season and will have a week off before competing in the Varsity Cup Playoffs starting Nov. 21.
