Bergin notched his first goal of the year in the third period (Gil Talbot).

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Desmond Bergin got Harvard on the scoreboard with 54.3 seconds left, but sixth-ranked Crimson men's hockey team could not find the equalizer, dropping a road game at Brown, 2-1, Saturday afternoon.

With Harvard (12-8-2, 8-6-2 ECAC Hockey) trailing, 2-0, late in the final minute, Bergin scored from in front, burying a shot past Brown goalie Tim Ernst with 54 ticks left on the clock. Sean Malone was credited with the primary assist with the pass from behind the net, while Jimmy Vesey had the secondary assist on the goal.  

The Crimson ran out of time before tying the game, as the Bears improved to 5-17-1 and 2-13-1 in league play. Steve Michalek finished the game with 22 saves for Harvard, while Ernst turned aside 23 Crimson shots. Both teams finished 0-of-2 on the power play.

Harvard earned the lone power play and outshot the Bears, 8-7, in a scoreless first period.

Early on in the second, Tyler Bird put the Bears on top, 1-0, as he finished off an end-to-end rush for Brown at 1:03 of the second. Sam Lafferty skated through the neutral zone and dropped off a pass to Matt Lorito, who put a shot on net. Michalek stopped the initial attempt, but Bird was there for the rebound for the goal.

The Bears added to their lead early in the third, as Nick Lappin beat Michalek with a backhand from the slot at 3:24. Lorito earned the primary assist on the play, moving the puck from the left boards, while Mark Naclerio was also credited with an assist on the goal.

The Crimson will hit the ice again Monday at the TD Garden, as Harvard will take on No. 11/12 Boston College in the consolation game of the Beanpot. Puck drop is slated for 4:30 p.m.
