PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Harvard's women's rugby squad suffered its first loss of the season in a 44-17 decision at defending Ivy League Conference Tournament champion Brown. The Crimson fell to 2-1 on the season and 1-1 in Ivy Conference play.
Brown got off to a hot start, scoring two tries in the opening 10 minutes of play and posted a 12-0 lead. Harvard got on the board with its first try of the game as Haley Langan, Mariah Turner and Ann-Marie Barrett paced the Crimson scoring drive following a lineout to cut Brown's lead to seven.
The Bears capitalized on several first-half Crimson penalties and held a 22-5 advantage at the half.
Harvard opened the scoring in the second half with a try and a successful conversion by Susie Clements to cut the deficit to 10. However, Brown posted another 12-point run to further its lead to 34-12.
Harvard responded, as Grace Chao weaved through the Brown defense on a pass from Claire Collins that proved to be the Crimson's final try of the day, as Brown handed Harvard its first loss of the season by a final of 44-17.
Harvard will return to the pitch next Saturday as it opens its October slate with a matchup against Princeton Oct. 3 at noon.
