Harvard competed in five games over two days at the Atlanta 7's (Gil Talbot).
KENNESAW, Ga. – The Harvard women's rugby team wrapped up competition at the Atlanta 7's this weekend at Kennesaw State, going 3-2 on the weekend. The Crimson went 3-1 over its pool play games before falling to Life in the in the Elite College Bracket championship.
Harvard 41, Texas A&M 0
Harvard got the best of Texas A&M in its opening game of the Atlanta 7's on Friday, shutting out the Aggies, 41-0. Aniebiet Abasi downed the opening try and the Harvard offense continued to overwhelm Texas A&M, taking a four-try lead at the half. Isabelle Delaura kept the offense hot with her first try of the season in the second half as the Crimson cruised to victory.
Life A 33, Harvard 5
Life's Deshel Ferguson led the way for the Running Eagles with its opening three tries as Harvard fell, 33-5, in its final game of its opening day. Ferguson put the Running Eagles ahead in the opening minute as she went the distance down the sideline to take a 7-0 lead. Caitlin Weigel responded as she broke through traffic to put Harvard within a try, but Ferguson drove the length of the field again to give the Running Eagles a 14-5 halftime advantage. Life posted another trio of scores in the second half as it downed Harvard, 33-5.
Harvard 20, Ohio State 0
The Crimson found its offense stride as it returned to action against Ohio State on Saturday. Harvard downed a pair of tries in each half, tallying its second shutout of the tournament with a 20-0 blanking of Ohio State.
Harvard 20, Lindenwood 14
Harvard put up another four tries in its final pool play contest as it took down Lindenwood, 20-14. The Lions returned the opening kick to the end zone to take a 7-0 lead, but Abasi drove the length of the field to even the score before Lindenwood downed another try before the half to take a 14-7 advantage.
Weigel took over the second half, evening the score before Haley Langan and Claire Collins set Weigel up for the go-ahead try as Harvard held off the Lions to advance to the Elite College division championship match.
Life 17 A, Harvard 5
Harvard was the first to light the scoreboard, but Life A proved too be too much once again as it downed the Crimson in the Elite College division final, 17-5.
Abasi downed Harvard's lone try of the contest on a 60-yard sprint off a handoff from Langan before the Running Eagles tallied three straight scores to take the Elite College division championship title.
Harvard will have a weekend off before it heads to Princeton, New Jersey for the Ivy 7's Championship.
