Men's Lacrosse to Clash with Providence on Saturday at Jordan Field

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - Harvard will look to build on the momentum from last week's win at Hartford when it plays host to Providence Saturday afternoon at Jordan Field. The non-conference clash is scheduled for a 1 p.m. start and will air on ESPN+.

What to Know

  • The Crimson is fresh off a 16-9 road win over Hartford last Saturday morning. Harvard, which went into the game winless, had endured deflating losses in its previous two outings where it led in the fourth quarter. The Crimson, however, started fast by scoring eight of the game's first nine goals and enjoyed a 10-2 halftime lead before emerging victorious.

  • The month of March has been good to Harvard. Since the start of the 2018 campaign, the Crimson is 6-1 in the calendar's third month with an 11-8 road win over Providence among the victories. Harvard is an even-better 4-0 in March home games since the beginning of last year.

  • The Crimson-Friars series is four games old despite the 55-mile separation between the campuses. The schools met for three straight seasons (2001, 2002, 2003) with Harvard posting an average margin of victory of 5.7 goals in all three meetings. The series resumed a year ago with the aforementioned three-goal road victory.

  • Harvard had a balanced scoring attack at Hartford as a season-high eight different players found the back of the net with five of them logging at least one assist. The Crimson have now had a season-high five players find the assist column in two straight games.

  • First-year Austin Madronic was named the Ivy League Rookie of the Week for the second time this season on Monday. The attacker scored a team-high four goals and shared team honors with Kyle Anderson as the duo tallied five points. Madronic now has two hat tricks, which is tied with Ryan Graff for the most in 2019. 

At The Helm

Chris Wojcik '96 is in his ninth season as the Frisbie Family Head Coach for Harvard Men's Lacrosse. During his time at the helm of the Crimson, Wojcik has directed Harvard to a 61-60 overall record, including a pair of 10-win campaigns and 15 wins against ranked opponents. Six individuals have collected a total of nine USILA All-America accoloades, while 39 have been named All-Ivy League.

Harvard will return to action on Saturday, March 16, when it plays its Ivy League opener at Brown. The game is set to air on NESNplus at 4 p.m.
