No. 16 Men's Ice Hockey Fights For 1-1 Tie at No. 1/1 Cornell

Box Score

ITHACA, N.Y. – Sophomore forward Jack Drury scored late in the third period, but No. 16 Harvard men's ice hockey (9-6-4, 7-4-3 ECAC Hockey) had to settled for a hard-earned 1-1 tie against No. 1/1 Cornell (14-1-4, 9-1-2 ECAC Hockey) at Lynah Rink.

The Crimson, which outshot Cornell 30-17 on the night, took the lead with 4:05 remaining in the third period, as sophomore forward Casey Dornbach set up the first goal of the night. Dornbach curled behind the net and found Drury open in the slot, and the sophomore hit the top corner to make it 1-0.

But minutes later, Drury was whistled for a slashing call at the 18:04 mark, and Cornell scored the equalizer on the power play (Michael Regush) at 18:14.

In overtime, Harvard outshot Cornell, 2-1, and controlled possession for large stretches, as it did for most of the night in regulation, but the Crimson could not find the game-winner in the extra frame.

Senior goaltender Cameron Gornet was excellent for Harvard, making 16 saves on the night, while Matthew Galajda stopped 29 shots for Cornell.

Harvard had the early jump, with the game's best scoring chance in the opening 10 minutes of play, as junior forward Henry Bowlby fed Nathan Krusko alone in front, but Galajda made a sprawling glove save to keep the game scoreless.

Harvard killed off two penalties in the frame, holding Cornell to just one shot on goal on the man advantage.

In the second period, Harvard outshot Cornell 12-4, and again limited Cornell to minimal scoring opportunities and possession. Gornet made perhaps his best save of the night in the frame, kicking out his right pad to make a save at the 12:30 mark on a 2-on-1 rush for Cornell.
