CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – For the fifth straight academic year, Harvard University's student-athlete graduation rate led the nation. Harvard was one of nine schools to score 99 on the latest NCAA Graduation Success Rate (GSR) for all Division I student-athletes who began their college careers in 2013.
The NCAA's GSR measures student-athlete graduation rates over a six-year period from the first year of enrollment. The NCAA's Graduation Success Rate includes transfer students and student-athletes who leave in good academic standing.
Harvard's 26 varsity athletic programs with a 100 percent four-year Graduation Success Rate in the 2020 report are: baseball, men's and women's basketball, men's and women's fencing, field hockey, men's and women's ice hockey, women's golf, women's lacrosse, men's and women's skiing, softball, men's and women's soccer, men's and women's swimming and diving, men's and women's tennis, men's and women's cross country/track and field, men's and women's volleyball, men's and women's water polo, and wrestling.
The Ivy League once again led the nation in GSR with all eight members achieving a score of 96 or better.
Each spring, the NCAA also releases a separate set of data, the Academic Progress Rate (APR), which measures both academic performance and retention. Each athletic program receives an APR score, with teams falling under a certain threshold subject to penalties such as loss of scholarships and postseason bans. The top 10 percent in each sport receive APR Public Recognition Awards from the NCAA.
