No. 20 Men's Ice Hockey Takes Down No. 5/6 Clarkson, 5-2

Box Score

POTSDAM, N.Y. – A three-goal first period helped No. 20 Harvard men's ice hockey (12-8-6, 10-4-5 ECAC Hockey) earn a 5-2 road win at No. 5/6 Clarkson (22-7-2, 15-4-0 ECAC Hockey) on Friday night (Feb. 21) at Cheel Arena.

Junior forward Jack Donato recorded his first career two-goal game, sophomore forward Jack Drury scored his team-leading 17th goal of the season, and first-year goaltender Mitchell Gibson stopped 35 shots to help the Crimson earn the win.

Junior forward Jack Badini and first-year defenseman Henry Thrun added goals for the Crimson, which recorded its first win over a top-5 team since Feb. 13, 2017 (W, 6-3 vs. Boston University).

Harvard got off to a fantastic start, scoring on its first power play chance of the game with Drury putting in a rebound off a shot from Jack Rathbone (two assists) at 2:45 to make it 1-0.

Then just over two minutes later, Donato pressured the Clarkson defense and forced a turnover, then beat Clarkson goaltender Frank Marotte on a wraparound at 4:49.

Gibson was at his best, stopping two shorthanded breakaway chances for Zach Tsekos with Harvard holding a two goal lead.

Later on in the period, Badini put in a rebound at 12:48 to make it 3-0, and the score remained that way after 20 minutes.

After Clarkson scored early (1:48) in the second period), Thrun put in a wrist shot through traffic at 4:51 to make it 4-1, chasing Marotte from the game.

Donato put in an empty netter at 17:30 of the third period to seal the win.
