Abruzzese Named ECAC Hockey Rookie of the Year

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – First-year forward Nick Abruzzese was named ECAC Hockey Rookie of the Year, the conference announced today (March 19). Abruzzese, a First-Team All-ECAC Hockey and All-Rookie Team selection, had a historic first season with the Crimson, recording 44 points (14 goals, 30 assists) in 31 games, leading all NCAA first-years in scoring.

The Ivy League Rookie of the Year, Abruzzese was second in all of Division I college hockey with an average of 1.42 points per game. A native of Slate Hill, N.Y., Abruzzese recorded the best freshman season in the Ted Donato era at Harvard (2004-present), a mark previously established by Adam Fox (6-34-40) in 2016-17.

He notched a team-high 14 multiple-point efforts, and was the driving force behind Harvard's potent power play (No. 1 NCAA, 31.2%), leading ECAC Hockey with 18 points (six goals, 12 assists) on the man advantage.

Harvard first-years have won the ECAC Hockey Rookie of the Year award in three of the last four seasons, with Adam Fox (2017), Casey Dornbach (2018), and now Abruzzese continuing a run of talented players making an early impact with the Crimson.
