Farinacci, Thrun, Coach Donato Earn Gold With United States at World Juniors

John Farinacci was one of Team USA's leading scorers with five goals.
EDMONTON, Canada – Harvard sophomores John Farinacci and Henry Thrun, and Ted Donato, serving as an assistant coach, earned gold with Team USA at the 2021 World Junior Tournament after a 2-0 win over Canada on Tuesday (Jan. 5) night.
 
The win against the Canadians was the culmination of a fantastic run for Harvard's three representatives at the tournament, helping Team USA win its fifth gold medal at the World Junior Tournament (2004, 2010, 2013, 2017, 2021).
 
Farinacci was tied for second on Team USA with five goals on the tournament and played a key role as the team's third-line center. A native of Red Bank, N.J., scored a key goal in the United States' semifinal win against Finland and was solid in the faceoff circle throughout the competition.
 
Thrun, a native of Southborough, Mass., played in all of Team USA's games in the tournament and finished the competition with a plus-6 rating.
 
Donato helped guide the U.S. to gold, making his first appearance on the coaching staff of a U.S. National Junior Team. Donato, a native of Scituate, Mass. had previously represented the United States as a player on several occasions.
