BOSTON, Mass. – An early second quarter penalty stroke goal for senior captain
Hannah Pearce was enough to lift No. 13 Harvard field hockey (12-1) to a 1-0 win at Boston University (3-12) on Monday night (Oct. 18) at New Balance Field.
Harvard earned its seventh straight victory overall with the win and its eighth shutout of the season. Junior goalkeeper
Ellie Shahbo (two saves) earned her seventh shutout, making key stops in the second and third quarters to help the Crimson maintain its lead.
It was a quick restart that helped the Crimson earn the penalty stroke and its lone goal of the game, as
Emily Guckian found
Siena Horton alone at the top of the circle and she was bumped to the ground in the act of shooting.
Pearce then converted the stroke at 3:16 into the second quarter to give Harvard the 1-0 lead. The goal was Pearce's team-leading ninth of the year.
Shahbo made a right footed kick save on a shot by BU's Thalia Steenssens later in the quarter, the Terriers' best chance of the game.
In the third quarter, she blocked another BU shot away at the 35:00 mark to help preserve the win for the Crimson.
