CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Harvard women's rugby closed out its regular season with a 22-7 victory over Army, improving to 6-1 on the season. The Crimson clinches the No. 2 seed in NIRA with the victory and will now host its NIRA National Semifinal game on Saturday, Nov. 13.
It was a dreary day in Cambridge for this highly anticipated rematch of the 2019 NIRA National Championship game. Harvard was able to break through first, with senior
Emma Kearney finding the try-zone 17 minutes in. Army would answer with a try and conversion to make it a 7-5 game. The Black Knights lead would not last long as first-year
PK Vincze scored her eighth try of the season on an offload from sophomore
Anjalika Ybema to make it a 10-7 game with nine minutes left in the half. The Crimson fended off a late Army push as the Black Knights came within a few meters of scoring their second try right before the break.
The Crimson took its momentum into the second half and scored the first try after the break. Sophomore
Brogan Mior found Vincze for her second try of the game, followed by a successful conversion from Mior. The Crimson defense stood strong throughout the second half, never allowing Army to get loose on the wings. Kearney would go on to score her second try of the game with 13 minutes remaining, wrapping up the 22-7 victory for the Crimson. The win propelled the Crimson into the No. 2 seed and will now have a chance to defend its home-field for a fifth time this season.
