NEW HAVEN, CT – First year
Megan Joel scored twice in the third quarter to lift No. 13 Harvard field hockey (10-1, 3-0 Ivy) to a 3-1 win at Yale (4-6, 1-2 Ivy) on Saturday afternoon (Oct. 9).
Sophomore
Mazarine Broze added a first quarter goal, and junior goalkeeper
Ellie Shahbo made two saves to earn the win in net.
Broze got things going in the right direction for Harvard early on, as the Crimson scored on its first penalty corner of the day.
Senior
Hannah Pearce's penalty corner shot deflected off a Yale stick in front and floated in the air towards the goal. Broze was there on the left side and knocked the ball down into the net just 4:34 into the game.
Yale evened the score on a penalty corner early in the second quarter, with Theodora Dillman getting the goal for the Bulldogs as 11:53.
But Joel put Harvard comfortably ahead in the third quarter with two goals in a span of 1:16.
On another Harvard penalty corner, Joel redirected a shot from
Hannah Pearce into the net at 8:56. Just over a minute later, Joel again redirected a penalty corner shot, this time sliding to her left to push a shot into the low left corner at 7:38 to make it 3-1.
Harvard held Yale without a shot in the final quarter to seal the win.
