Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Caloia Scores Twice, No. 10/18 Women’s Soccer Defeats Cornell, 4-0

ITHACA, N.Y. – Junior Angela Caloia netted a pair of goals, juniors Jordan Di Verniero and Ava Lung each scored once, and the Crimson posted its third straight Ivy shutout as No. 10/18 Harvard University women's soccer defeated Cornell University, 4-0, on Saturday afternoon at Berman Field.

Following a scoreless first half, the undefeated Crimson (9-0-1, 3-0-0 Ivy) scored all four of its goals inside the first 27 minutes of the second half to top the host Big Red (3-7-2, 1-2-0 Ivy). Harvard maintained its place in a tie at the top of the Ivy League standings at nine points and will meet co-leader Brown in its next match on Oct. 16.

Ranked No. 9 in the NCAA RPI Rankings, Harvard remained one of four unbeatens – alongside No. 1/1 Florida State (12-0-0), No. 3/3 UCLA (10-0-2), and No. 24/RV Georgetown (7-0-6) – in the nation. The Crimson continued its best start to a season since 1996.

Less than a minute into the second half, Caloia lifted the lid on the game's scoring, heading home a ball from the edge of the goal area off a well-placed cross from first-year Hannah Bebar at the 45:57 mark. Caloia doubled the Crimson's lead at 53:13. After senior Sophie Hirst drove a shot off the crossbar, Caloia capitalized on the ensuing action off the rebound – with another assist from Bebar – slotting a shot into the left side of the goal.

Di Verniero extended the lead to 3-0 at 68:18. After first-year Josefine Hasbo won the ball, she slid a pass to Di Verniero who sent a low shot into the back of the net. Lung capped the scoring at the 71:52 mark, driving a shot into the goal from inside the box after Bebar forced a turnover.

As a team, Harvard posted its fifth shutout of the season. The Crimson has compiled clean sheets in all three of its Ivy League games in 2021 and has an active shutout streak of 294:03.
