CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Despite a dominant third set and a triple-double from
Ashley Wang, the Harvard women's volleyball team (10-13, 7-7 Ivy League) fell to Yale (16-7, 9-5 Ivy League), 3-2, tonight, Nov. 13, at the Malkin Athletic Center to conclude its 2021 campaign. The Crimson suffered the five-set setback by set scores of 27-29, 25-18, 25-13, 15-25 and 9-15.
A dominant performance from sophomore
Ashley Wang led to her second triple-double of the season, including a team-best 14 kills, 24 assists and 11 digs. Wang tied her career high in kills tonight against the Bulldogs. Three other Crimson players joined Wang in double-digit kills:
Jaimie Rao (13),
Katie Vorhies (13) and
Nicole Prescott (11). Vorhies led the Crimson in attack percentage, registering a new career high after hitting at a .632 clip with just one error. Helping connect Harvard on 55 kills on the night, sophomore
Bella Almanza split setting duties with Wang, dishing out 23 of her own helpers.
Defensively, first-year
Lindsey Zhang led the way with 14 digs. First-year
Teia Piette and Wang also notched double figures, with 12 and 11 digs, respectively. At the net, the sophomore duo of
Olivia Cooper and
Ariana White provided an impressive presence. Cooper tallied six blocks, while White put up five. Rao followed closing behind, adding four blocks as well.
Harvard Highlights
- With her second triple-double of the season,
Ashley Wang is just the sixth player in Division I collegiate women's volleyball to have multiple triple-doubles this season.
- Wang also added a team-best three services to her tally.
- Harvard outblocked Yale, 12-8, and outhit the Bulldogs .287 to .226.
- The Crimson recorded a match-high .545 hitting percentage in set three, with 13 kills and just one error.
