CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -- Rising senior Truman Jones was elected as the 148th captain of Harvard football for the 2022 season, as announced by Tim Murphy, The Thomas Stephenson Family Head Coach of Harvard Football, at Harvard Stadium Monday afternoon.
Jones, a defensive lineman from Atlanta, Georgia, will continue the tradition that began in 1946 of one player serving as the Crimson football captain. Jones is also the 17th consecutive defensive player elected captain for Harvard football. Jones recorded 25 tackles, including 4.5 tackles for a loss and 2.0 sacks, while recovering one fumble, hurrying the quarterback six times and breaking up two passes during his junior campaign.
Murphy made the announcement prior to the team's running the 3.2 for Ben at Harvard Stadium, a 3.2 mile run/walk in honor of No. 32 Ben Abercrombie and benefiting The Benson M. Abercrombie '21 Fund.
Harvard football completed the 2021 season with a 34-31 victory over Yale at the Yale Bowl Nov. 20, the Crimson's 11th victory over its archrival in the last 14 playings of The Game.
