Game Recap: Men's Ice Hockey |

No. 9/13 Men's Ice Hockey Rallies For 3-2 Win Over No. 14/15 Cornell

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Sophomore forward Sean Farrell had a pair of goals, including the game-winning power play goal at 4:38 of the third period to lift No. 9/13 Harvard men's ice hockey (3-0-0, 2-0-0 ECAC Hockey) to a 3-2 win over No. 14/15 Cornell (2-1-0, 0-1-0 ECAC Hockey) in front of a sold out crowd of 3,095 fans at Bright-Landry Hockey Center.

Senior captain Casey Dornbach added a goal and junior goaltender Mitchell Gibson was fantastic in net, making 36 saves to help Harvard earn the victory.

The Crimson had to rally from a 2-0 deficit despite a strong opening 10 minutes, as Harvard outshot Cornell 8-0 in the early stages of the game only to see Big Red storm back.

At 16:06 of the first period, Cornell's Matt Stienburg scored a power play goal on a rebound in front to make it 1-0 Big Red.

Then early on in the second period, Sam Malinski scored on a fluky goal, as his point shot deflected off the back boards and off Gibson at :47 to make it 2-0.

But Harvard responded, as first-year forward Matthew Coronato found Farrell with a long stretch pass for a breakaway chance, which Farrell finished up high at 6:13 to make it a one goal game.

Just over five minutes later, Harvard tied it, as a series of tic-tac-toe passes from Nick Abruzzese to Alex Laferriere to Dornbach led to a goal at 11:27 to tie the game at 2-2.

Farrell scored the game-winner on Harvard's fourth power play chance of the night, as he shoveled a shot that bounced past Cornell goaltender Joe Howe (19 saves) at 4:38 as the net became dislodged. After review, the goal stood and Harvard had its first lead of the night.
