No. 11 Field Hockey Clinches Ivy Title Outright With 4-0 Win Over Brown; Honors Van Herwaarden's 100th Victory

CAMBRIDGE, Mass.  – Seniors Hannah Pearce, Mimi Tarrant, and Rachel Greenwood all scored to help No. 11 Harvard field hockey (15-1, 7-0 Ivy League) beat Brown, 4-0, and complete a perfect season in conference play and clinch its third outright Ivy League title in the last five seasons (2016, 2018, 2021).
 
Harvard has won six Ivy League titles overall in program history.
 
Head coach Tjerk van Herwaarden earned his 100th win in his 10th season with the program, which the team celebrated after the game.
 
Sophomore Mazarine Broze had a goal and an assist, and junior goalkeeper Ellie Shahbo made three saves to earn her eighth shutout of the season.

Pearce scored her team-leading 13th goal of the season at 13:05 of the 1st quarter on a penalty corner, and the score remained 1-0 Harvard at the half.
 
Then the Crimson scored two goals in a span of :14 early in the third quarter, as Broze scored from in close at 32:24, then Tarrant notched her first goal of the year on a rebound off an initial chance by Avery Donahue (two assists) at 32:28 to make it 3-0.
 
Greenwood added her goal early in the fourth quarter, also from in close on a rebound chance at 46:59 to round out the scoring.
 
Harvard Highlights
  • Senior captain Hannah Pearce (goal) has points in eight straight games. She leads the team with 28 points (13 goals, two assists) on the year.
  • Ellie Shahbo improved her record to 14-1 with a 0.41 GAA and .857 Save%
Game Notes
  • Harvard will hear its NCAA Tournament destination on Sunday night at 10 p.m. (ET), as the NCAA selection show will air on NCAA.com.
  • Harvard recorded its sixth straight win in the series against Brown.
  • Harvard returns to the NCAA Tournament after appearing in 2016 and 2018. Harvard had its best NCAA Tournament run in 2018, reaching the quarterfinal round.
  • Harvard is keeping pace with the 2018 team matching its best 16-game start in school history. The Crimson has won 10 games in a row.
