Game Recap: Men's Ice Hockey |

No. 17 Men's Ice Hockey Shutout at Brown, 2-0

PROVIDENCE, R.I. –  Junior goaltender Mitchell Gibson made 19 saves, but No. 17 Harvard men's ice hockey (5-4-1, 4-2-1 ECAC Hockey) was shutout, 2-0, at Brown (2-7-0, 2-5-0 ECAC Hockey) on Friday night (Dec. 3) at Meehan Auditorium.

Harvard outshot Brown 34-21 for the night, the Bears broke a scoreless tie midway through the third period, as Tristan Crozier scored the deciding goal on a rebound in front at 11:47 of the final frame.

The Crimson had perhaps its best chance to score minutes after Brown's first goal, as sophomore John Fusco fired a shot on net after a faceoff win. Fusco's shot deflected off Brown goaltender Mathieu Caron (34 saves) and into the air, and first-year forward Matthew Coronato batted the rebound out of the air and off the glove of Caron at 15:11.

Brown added an empty net goal in the final minute of play to seal the win.

Harvard had the jump early on, with 23 shot attempts to Brown's nine in the first period, but the game remained scoreless after the opening 20 minutes.

In a physical second period, Harvard again carried the play, outshooting the Bears 12-3. Harvard had two power play chances in the final 10 minutes of the middle frame, but couldn't solve Caron.

After a long shift in the Brown zone, first-year Matthew Coronato fired a wrist shot from the left circle that Caron stopped with his shoulder at 9:57 in what was one of the Crimson's best chances of the period.

Harvard had the puck in the offensive zone for most of a late second period power play, but on a net-front scramble with Caron out of position, Harvard could not find the rebound chance at 19:30 and the game remained scoreless heading into the third.
